Pulmonary Function Testing
What is a Pulmonary Function Test?
Lung function tests (Pulmonary Function Testing, PFT) evaluate how well your lungs work. The tests can assist in diagnosing asthma, measure severity of lung problems, and measure how successful treatments are working. The most common test on the lungs is Spirometry.
Spirometry
During a Spirometry test, you breathe into a mouthpiece that's attached to a spirometer. The spirometer then measures the amount and the rate of air that you are breathing.
During the test, you exhale forcefully & long, and take in a deep breath.
