Patch Testing

Picture
What is Patch Testing?
Patch tests are used as a way to tell whether a substance that comes into contact with the skin is causing inflammation (contact dermatitis). The test involves applying possible allergy inducing substances to the skin under an adhesive patch. After a period of time (generally 48 and 72 hours) the skin is examined for any allergic reactions.

Patch Tests Commonly Test These Substances
Many of these substances are found in everyday things, like cosmetics, food, and products.
  • Caine mix
  • Carba mix, Latex
  • Chlorocresol
  • Chromate
  • Formaldehyde
  • Lanolin
  • Nickel
  • Parabens
  • Toluene
